We are on a mission: to make healthy sports nutrition available to everyone, in a simple and fast way. We'd like to share this mission with our partners, known as SportMeals Athletes. Every month, one of them shares their story. This time it's the turn of Shannen Delilah, sports, nutrition and mindset coach.
Hello, my name is Shannen. I am Head Coach and CEO at Bodies by Shannen Delilah. I guide women of all ages and backgrounds towards the best version of themselves, or in their (coaching) business, through nutrition, fitness and mindset. It is my passion and mission to teach women all over the world how to use nutrition as a tool to feel better in your skin, have more energy, and reach and maintain your goals, among other things. It doesn't matter where you come from or what your goal is. All I ask for is commitment and willpower to get the most out of it.
When people want to lose weight, you often hear: “You just have to move more and eat less.” That is a bit too simplistic and not very specific. Besides the number of calories you consume per day, the timing, structure and distribution of your food also matter. You want a good, proper start to your day when you get up, to keep going at work for a few hours after lunch, to have enough energy in the gym, and not to go to bed hungry after dinner.
If you are a busy woman like me, SportMeals can support you in this process. How? Read the tips below for meals at every moment of the day:
Breakfast: to start the day well, you want a breakfast that is nutritious and filling: a combination of protein, fat and carbs. Think of an omelette with fresh vegetables and sourdough bread.
Lunch: if you want to lose weight, you can choose a light lunch of protein, vegetables and some fruit. If you want to build muscle, add an extra source of carbs. Examples are the weight-loss meals with only meat (or a meat substitute), fish or chicken combined with vegetables, or a Get lean meal or Build muscle meal that also contains carbs.
Pre workout: I would eat most of your carbs around your training. Before training, you want to have a combination of protein, enough carbs and fat. You can choose oats, fruit and natural peanut butter.
Post workout: after training, you want a combination of protein and enough (fast-absorbing) carbs. Think of a Muscle Nutrition protein powder with Rice Krispies.
Rest days: on rest days, I like to choose a meal with oily fish, such as the meals with salmon fillet combined with vegetables, without carbs.
Dinner: in the evening we generally move less. If you want to lose weight, you can choose a light dinner with only protein, vegetables and fat. If you want to build muscle, you can add carbs. Again, think of weight-loss meals with only meat (or a meat substitute), fish or chicken combined with vegetables, or a Get lean meal or Build muscle meal with carbs such as rice, pasta or sweet potato.
I hope this has taught you a bit more about the role of nutrition, and how you can use it smartly to make progress.
